Robust Shadow Estimation

چکیده
Efficiently estimating properties of large and strongly coupled quantum systems is a central focus in many-body physics information theory. While computers promise speedups for many such tasks, near-term devices are prone to noise that will generally reduce the accuracy estimates. Here we show how mitigate errors shadow estimation protocol recently proposed by Huang, Kueng, Preskill. By adding an experimentally friendly calibration stage standard scheme, our robust algorithm can obtain unbiased estimate classical system hence extract useful sample-efficient noise-resilient manner given only minimal assumptions on experimental conditions. We give rigorous bounds sample complexity demonstrate its performance with several numerical experiments.

Resolution Estimation for Shadow Mapping
We present an approach to efficiently reduce shadow map resolution while retaining high quality hard shadows. In the first step, we generate a list of sample points that are seen from the camera and then project these into light space, much like Alias-free Shadow Maps. In the next step, we analyze the list of sample points on the GPU to construct a tight light frustum for shadow rendering. Afte...
متن کاملShadow Computations using Robust Epsilon Visibility
Analytic visibility algorithms, for example methods which compute a subdivided mesh to represent shadows, are notoriously unrobust and hard to use in practice. We present a new method based on a generalized definition of extremal stabbing lines, which are the extremities of shadow boundaries. We treat scenes containing multiple edges or vertices in degenerate configurations, (e.g., collinear or...
متن کاملA Robust Background Subtraction and Shadow Detection
This paper presents a novel algorithm for detecting moving objects from a static background scene that contains shading and shadows using color images. Although the background subtraction technique has been used for years in many vision systems as a preprocessing step for object detection and tracking, most of these algorithms are susceptible to both global and local illumination changes such a...
متن کاملRobust Shadow Maps for Large Environments
One of the most demanding challenges for real-time shadow algorithms is their application to large-scale, polygon-rich and dynamic environments. In this paper, we discuss the major problems encountered in applying shadow maps to such an environment and provide practical and robust solutions to the appearing problems. We tackle projection aliasing with the aid of an eye space blur. We compare th...
متن کاملRobust estimation of surface properties and interpolation of shadow/specularity components
The Polynomial Texture Map framework (PTM) extends the simple model of image formation from the Lambertian variant of Photometric Stereo (PST) to more general reflectances and to more complex-shaped surfaces. It forms an alternative method for apprehending object colour, albedo, and surface normals. Here we consider solving such a model in a robust version, not to date attempted for PTM, with t...
